A look in detail
Intuitive Controls
Each button has a custom made icon that will clearly reflect the action that the button is intended to do helping users easily scan actions or options in the application without having to read the label on the button. Another incentive is the use of colors for these icons in such a way that the users are not confused on the effect of their actions. For example gray icons are neutral in their actions (edit, more, open), green icons will reflect a positive action (create for example) while a red icon would represent negative actions (delete, remove).

Visual Feedback
Each action from the user must provide instant feedback. The visits bar from the top will "glow" with green while a user hovers the cursor above an age area and by doing this, the user will always know exactly where he's looking helping him follow a list of numerous visits. A more extensive example is covered in the second figure below. Also, each button will have a hover state to tell the user of it's action availability.
Chart details
The chart title is separated in two parts, displaying the actual name with a larger text size and below the type with a smaller text size and neutral text color. The chart can be saved or printed by simply clicking the icons from the top right corner. The user can also zoom the chart for a more detailed view.
Easy access
While a user can select any visit from the top bar or from the left drop-down, he will always have the option to browse the next or previous visit relative to the currently selected one.
Quick information
Available charts are selectable from a simple dropdown list and will display both the title and type of the chart and the thumbnail preview of the actual chart values. This is helpful because people also remember graphs by their appearance, besides title and type. The display layout would consist of two vertical columns with two or three rows, so that the user can have them available at all times while using the application. Selected charts will display a solid green border and green title, to provide visual confirmation that they are selected and active.
Dynamic focus

To view a certain year from a patient's file the user can simply hover his mouse over any area of the visits bar and the "+ zoom icon" will appear and follow the cursor while he move around the bar's width. Whenever the user feels necessary to zoom in to see a year's visits month by month he can simply click the "+ zoom icon" and the bar will expand the year he selected. Now the user can easily follow each visit by month until he clicks the "- zoom icon" again and this will now compress the year and he can see the complete visits bar for the selected patient. It's just that easy!

Patient navigation
The patient navigation is search centered, optimized for large patient databases. There is also a "Latest patients" section that always shows the most recent ten patients, in order to maximize efficiency for small databases, and also it provides a starting point for users with large databases. The search will automatically display the matching patients when search yields a manageable amount of results and will prompt the user to refine the search query further when it exceeds a certain number of results.
